Sportsmanship

In a recently held sports competition in our school there was a lot of quarrels between two finalists,as they have been arch rivals since last three years. The team that lost the match blamed the umpires and accused them to be the main culprits behind their defeat. Also the winning side startled the losing one. Both the teams were competitive but the main thing they both lacked was the spirit of sportsmanship.
Sportsmanship is regarded as a component of morality in sport, composed of three related and perhaps overlapping concepts: fairplay, sportsmanship and character.Fair play refers to all participants treated equally and not blaming them for their blunders. And also behaving in dignified manner.Character mainly refers to disposition, values and habits that determine how one would respond in challenges, fears, opportunities, failures and successes. This good character is seen in a polite behavior towards players and officials and shaking hands after match.(seems i am quite childish, right?)
Sportsmanship is not booing someone after a match but is cheering by appreciating what they did.Sportsmanship is attitude,a code of conduct and a spirit of competition that permeate athletics. We must be proud, humble, competitive yet supportive.Because sports show us what we are and where we stand. And having written this much the words of an American basketball coach seem to be justified-"Sports don't build your character. They reveal it."
